Customising your blog
When you log back into your blog, you should change your password to something you will remember. Click site admin on the right hand side of your blog, which will take you to the main ‘dashboard’ page. Click ‘update your profile or change your password’, which will take you to a screen allowing you to change your password to something more memorable. At this point, your blogs will all look the same. So now you need to personalise them! In the menu on the right hand side of your blog, click ‘login’ if you aren’t already logged in (you will be if you’ve just changed your password). If you are logged in, click ‘site admin’. This is where you will always go to write posts or change any of your blog’s settings.
Click on ‘change your site’s look or theme’. You will be given a huge choice of themes to choose from. When you select one, it will appear at the top of the page, and you also have ‘theme options’ and ‘sidebar widgets’ in the menu at the top, which allow you to customise it further if you want. IMPORTANT: if you are customising your sidebar widgets, you MUST drag ‘meta’ into the box as one of your options, or the ‘site admin’ feature will disappear and you won’t be able to log in next time! You also must add ‘links’ to be able to add links later. Remember to click update options at the bottom for changes to take effect, then you can click ‘view site’ at the top to see how it looks on the full screen.
Click on Dashboard at any time to take you back to the main menu.
Go to Options to change the sub-heading for your blog, from ‘just another edublogs.org weblog’ to something of your choice. In the menu bar just below the main menu bar are more options involving how many posts you want displayed on a page, whether summaries or whole posts are shown and more. Play around with these in your own time if you want, and post a comment on http://thegothic.edublogs.org if you have any questions you want me to help you with.
